On This Day – 3 Interesting Milestones in Music History
As music fans, we all remember some of the key milestones in music history such as when The Beatles released their first single in 1962 or the death of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson in 2009. But what happened on this day? This post will take you through what we think are 3 of the most interesting and memorable milestones in music history.

What happened on this day?

To kick things off, we want to talk about 11th August 1979. A sad day for British rock fans as Led Zeppelin played their last ever UK show at Knebworth House, England. Lucky fans of the band got to experience an amazing set list including hits such as ‘Stairway to Heaven’, ‘Whole Lotta Love’ and ‘Communication Breakdown’ one last time.

On a more positive note, Elvis Presley made history on 11th August 1956 when he released the double sided hit, ‘Don’t Be Cruel / Hound Dog’. Presley wasted no time in reaching Number 1 in the US Charts, where it remained for a record breaking 11 weeks! This record remained Presley’s for an unbelievable 36 years until Boyz II Men took the record in 1992 with ‘End of the Road’.

Our favourite milestone in music history on 11th August occurred in the year 1969. The Daisy Club, popular for being one of the first night spots Frank Sinatra was seen, made history when they introduced a brand new singing group which would become a household name until this day.On this day, 350 people were invited to a special one-off concert at the Daisy Club to see Motown Records brand new signings, The Jackson Five. Introduced by Diana Ross, The Jackson 5 would later become one of the most popular Motown groups of all time.
